Denise Lewis

“Heptathlon consists of seven different track and field events spread across two days. It demands great endurance. After participating in main events, Denise Lewis from Great Britain was trained in the heptathlon. First, she won the Commonwealth Gold Medal in 1994. Later, she won medals in several major championships. A year before the 2000 Olympics, she suffered a calf injury at the world championship. There she stood second. She underwent surgery. She also suffered a shoulder injury. She was in Olympics without the required preparation. But her spirits were high. Braving her injuries she gave an admirable performance. 800 m. was the last event on the final day. She suffered an Achilles injury. It appeared as though it would keep her out of Olympics. She was not disheartened. It appeared that her defeat was sure. But she did not give up. She went on to finish the event and won the Olympics Gold. Denise Lewis demonstrated to the world that will-power rules the body and mind.
